IWV Agent: The Private, Local AI That Plans and Acts Across Your Notebooks, Files, and Conversations

IWV Digital Solutions LLC | Coming June 2026

AI assistants answer questions. They summarize paragraphs. They help you draft an email. But when you need something done — something that spans multiple notebooks, touches a dozen files, and requires a sequence of decisions — you are back to doing it yourself, step by step, manually.

IWV Agent changes that. It is a standalone, privacy-first AI application that does not just respond to prompts — it plans multi-step workflows, executes them using real tools, and delivers results across your NotesXML notebooks, IWV Chat conversations, and local filesystem. Tell it what you want accomplished, review the plan it generates, and let it work.

Every step runs locally on your hardware. No cloud. No accounts. No data collection. The same Zero-Exposure Protocol that governs NotesXML and IWV Chat governs the Agent — without exception.

Built by IWV Digital Solutions LLC, IWV Agent is currently in early development for Windows and Linux desktops, with an initial release targeted for June 2026.

The Gap Between Chat and Action

IWV Digital Solutions already offers two AI-powered products. IWV Chat is a free, voice-first conversational assistant — you ask a question, you get an answer. NotesXML Professional is a full productivity platform with 82 AI prompts that operate on individual notes, pages, and notebooks — you trigger an action, it processes a single piece of content.

Both are powerful within their scope. Neither can do what IWV Agent does.

Neither product supports multi-step workflows that span multiple notebooks. Neither can search your files, summarize what it finds, create a new notebook with the results, and notify you when it is done — all from a single request. Neither remembers your preferences across sessions or watches a folder for new documents to process automatically.

IWV Agent introduces a third paradigm: goal-oriented AI that plans, reasons, and executes sequences of actions across your entire local workspace. You describe the outcome you want. The Agent figures out the steps to get there.

How It Works: Plan, Review, Execute

The Agent operates on a plan-then-act architecture. Nothing happens silently. Nothing happens without your approval.

You type a goal in natural language — "Create a weekly digest of my Work notebooks" or "Prepare me for my meeting with Henderson by gathering everything relevant from my notes and recent conversations." The Agent's Planner decomposes your goal into a structured sequence of steps: which notebooks to read, which files to search, what to summarize, where to write the result.

The plan appears in the center panel as an interactive step list. Each step shows the tool it will use, its inputs, and its expected output. You can inspect every step, modify the plan, remove steps you do not want, or approve the whole sequence and let it run.

During execution, results stream in as each step completes. For sensitive operations — writing files, creating notebooks — the Agent pauses and asks for confirmation before proceeding. If a step fails, you can retry it, skip it, or ask the Planner to revise the remaining steps based on what went wrong. You are always in control.

A Toolbox That Reaches Everything

The Agent's power comes from its tool registry — a catalog of discrete capabilities the AI can invoke as part of any plan.

NotesXML tools let the Agent list your notebooks, read notes of any type, search across all notebooks by content, and create new notebooks and notes in a dedicated Agent output directory. Your existing notebooks are never modified — the Agent operates on a create-only basis, ensuring your manually organized content remains untouched.

IWV Chat tools let the Agent search your past conversations, read full conversation histories, and create new conversations that appear directly in IWV Chat's conversation list — fully resumable the next time you open IWV Chat.

Filesystem tools give the Agent access to your local files: reading text documents, listing directories, searching by filename, extracting text from PDFs, and reading images for vision-capable models. A directory watch feature lets you set up persistent monitors — drop a PDF into a watched folder, and the Agent automatically triggers a workflow to process it.

Text transform tools handle the knowledge work: summarization, translation, grammar polishing, action item extraction, outline generation, text comparison, document merging, and custom prompts for anything else.

Search tools provide unified retrieval across all data sources — notebooks, conversations, and files — in a single query.

Agent utility tools round out the set: persistent memory for storing preferences and context across sessions, system clipboard access, desktop notifications, and the ability to pause execution and ask you a clarifying question mid-workflow.

Every tool invocation is logged and visible. The Agent never acts in the dark.

Dual-Chat Routing: The Right Destination for Every Result

The IWV Digital Solutions product family contains two distinct places where AI-generated content can land, and the Agent is smart enough to choose the right one.

If a workflow is notebook-centric — summarizing research notes, generating a digest, creating a project outline — the Agent routes the result into a new NotesXML note inside the appropriate notebook. The content stays within your notebook structure, organized and accessible in NotesXML.

If a workflow produces a general conversational result you might want to revisit, continue, or share — a meeting prep summary, a question answered from your files, a drafted response — the Agent routes it into a new IWV Chat conversation. You can pick it up later in IWV Chat and continue the thread naturally.

You can override the routing at any time by telling the Agent where you want the result. If you do not specify, the Agent makes the call based on context.

The Full Model Catalog

IWV Agent has access to the same 16-model catalog that powers NotesXML Professional, spanning seven hardware tiers — from compact models that run on 4 GB of RAM all the way up to 70-billion-parameter models for high-end workstations. Models are downloaded once to the shared IWVDS model directory and are available to all three products without re-downloading.

Agentic workflows place heavier demands on a language model than single-shot chat or note summarization. Goal decomposition, plan generation, conditional execution, and re-planning on failure all require strong reasoning capabilities. The Agent recommends models with larger context windows for full capability, and it includes model tier indicators in Settings so you can make an informed choice based on your hardware.

GPU acceleration works identically to NotesXML and IWV Chat: Vulkan for NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel Arc discrete graphics; SYCL for Intel integrated graphics; optimized CPU threading as a universal fallback. The Agent detects your hardware at startup and selects the optimal acceleration path automatically.

Persistent Memory

Unlike a single conversation that starts fresh every time, the Agent maintains a persistent memory across sessions. Tell it that you are working on the Henderson proposal and prefer bullet-point summaries, and it remembers — next week, next month, whenever you return. Memory entries are stored locally in a simple JSON file you can inspect, edit, or clear at any time.

The Planner consults memory when generating plans, so your preferences and project context carry forward without you having to repeat yourself. A Memory Inspector in the Agent's Context panel gives you full visibility into what the Agent remembers and lets you delete anything you no longer want retained.

Privacy Without Asterisks

IWV Agent inherits every privacy commitment from NotesXML and IWV Chat, with no exceptions.

No cloud processing. Every AI computation — planning, execution, text transformation, search — runs on your device. No data is transmitted to any server during normal operation.

No accounts. There is no sign-up, no login, no user profile.

No telemetry. The Agent contains no analytics SDKs, no crash reporting services, no usage tracking, and no advertising infrastructure.

No ads. The application is permanently ad-free.

Offline by design. After the initial model download, every feature works without an internet connection. Your plans, task history, memory entries, and all generated content are stored locally in standard file formats you can inspect, back up, or delete.

The only network traffic IWV Agent ever generates is model downloads and an optional catalog update check from iwvdigitalsolutions.com. No user data is included in either request.

What You Can Do With It

The best way to understand IWV Agent is through the workflows it enables — tasks that would take you thirty minutes of manual switching between apps, reduced to a single goal and a few seconds of plan review.

Weekly Digest. "Create a weekly digest of my Work notebooks." The Agent finds all notes modified in the past seven days across your Work notebooks, summarizes each one, merges the summaries into a structured digest organized by notebook, creates a new notebook with the result, and notifies you when it is done.

Meeting Prep. "Prepare me for my meeting with Henderson." The Agent searches your notebooks and IWV Chat conversations for anything mentioning Henderson, gathers the relevant context, and produces a briefing document — either as a notebook note or an IWV Chat conversation you can reference during the meeting.

PDF Intake Pipeline. Set up a directory watch on your Downloads folder. Every time a new PDF appears, the Agent extracts its text, generates an AI summary, and creates a new note in your Research notebook — automatically, with no manual intervention.

Cross-Notebook Analysis. "Find conflicts between my project plan and my budget notes." The Agent reads both notebooks, compares the content, and reports discrepancies — something that would require you to open both notebooks, read through them manually, and hold the details in your head.

Three Panels, Complete Visibility

The Agent's interface is divided into three panels designed for transparency.

The left panel shows your task history — a chronological list of every workflow you have run, with status indicators and a search bar. Select any past task to review its plan, step outputs, and results.

The center panel is where the work happens. A chat input at the bottom accepts your goals in natural language. Above it, the active plan is displayed as an interactive step list with status indicators for each step: pending, running, complete, failed, or skipped. Click any step to expand its full output.

The right panel shows the Agent's current context: which notebooks are accessible, which conversations are loaded, active memory entries, and any file watches. This panel ensures you always know exactly what the Agent can see.

Platforms and Availability

IWV Agent is being developed for Windows and Linux desktops as an Electron application, sharing the same build infrastructure as NotesXML and IWV Chat. Android is planned for a future release once the desktop Agent is mature.

The Relationship to NotesXML and IWV Chat

IWV Agent does not replace either product. It connects them.

NotesXML remains the place where you organize your notes, write your documents, and use 82 AI prompts on individual content. IWV Chat remains the free, voice-first AI assistant for everyday questions and conversation. The Agent sits alongside both, adding a capability neither provides: multi-step, cross-application workflows that operate on your data as a whole rather than one note or one conversation at a time.

The Agent reads your NotesXML notebooks and IWV Chat conversations through well-defined interfaces. It does not require either application to be running. It does not modify your existing content. And it coordinates shared hardware resources — the AI model, the GPU, the inference server — through a lock file protocol that ensures all three products coexist without conflict.

Early Development — What to Expect

IWV Agent is currently in active development. The architecture is defined, the core modules are being implemented build by build, and the formal specification covers 119 requirements across planning, execution, tool registration, NotesXML integration, IWV Chat integration, filesystem operations, text transformation, search, memory, LLM engine management, security, and user interface.

The initial release, targeted for June 2026, will include the full plan-then-act workflow, NotesXML read and create-only write access, IWV Chat read and create access, filesystem tools, text transformation, search across all data sources, GPU-accelerated inference, and the complete three-panel interface. Post-launch phases will add persistent memory, directory watches, re-planning on failure, and eventually encrypted notebook support, scheduled tasks, vision integration, and an Android port.

Development is governed by the same discipline applied to NotesXML and IWV Chat: every feature is specified in writing before it is built, every interface is formally documented, and every build is tested against defined exit criteria before release.

The IWV Standard

IWV Agent is built and maintained by IWV Digital Solutions LLC, an independent software company based in California. We apply the same development discipline to IWV Agent that we apply to every product in the family: correctness over speed, documentation over assumptions, and user data sovereignty as a non-negotiable design constraint — not a marketing claim.

We believe your AI tools should work for you, not on you. They should plan transparently, act only with your approval, and never send a single byte of your data to anyone else's server. IWV Agent is the AI assistant that does what you ask — locally, privately, and with every step visible.
